Sauron’s Will !

This was an EXTREME alteration of a Yawgmoth’s Will card that required all of the card art to be covered up. So here’s Gollum with the Precious getting toasted by Sauron.
This was a private commission and a good example of some of the unconventional ideas that Magic players come up with.
‘Appreciate you looking!

All Hallow’s Eve Alteration.

This is a commissioned alteration that features an homage to Christopher Rush’s magnificent art for the All Hallow’s Eve card. This alteration was done on a foiled Yawgmoth’s Will card and the Japanese type was added as part of the alteration.
Thank you very much for looking!

Yawgmoth’s Halloween

An old alteration that was sold on Ebay.

This was an auction that I did years ago to put up for auction on Ebay.
The Legend of Sleepy Hollow has always been my favorite Halloween story. So I integrated it into an alteration on a Yawgmoth’s Will card and put it up for auction. It did quite well. So that made the whole project even more fun.

Altered Zombie Swamp Artist Proof

Front and back sides of the first ever altered artist proof card.

This was supposed to be an altered “Invasion” Swamp card.  When the zombie was finished on the front I happened to look on the back side of the card and was frustrated to see that I’d accidentally altered a white-backed artist proof card. This was NOT what the customer had commissioned.

Not wanting the piece  to go to waste, I sketched a quick Black Mana/undead picture on the white side and offered it to  Dan (the Hobby Town USA owner).  He was willing to swap it for a couple of Space Wolf items I needed.  So the little mistake found a loving home.

Thanks alot for stopping by!

Altered Magic the Gathering Swamps playset

zombie - swamps 1-4 200dpi

This was a commissioned alteration on a playset of 4 Swamps.  Dan, the player/collector/shop owner, wanted these to show around at NATIONALS in Kansas City.   It was a fun peice to work on.  A person can’t go wrong with Zombies!  These Swamps are one of the more detailed works that I’ve done for Dan over the years that we’ve known each other.   He owns a huge HOBBY TOWN USA store in Lincoln, NE and invites me out to one or two Magic events a year to meet the players and sign cards.   Each time he hands me a stack of cards to alter.  We’ve done cash deals or cool store mechandice swaps.   So its always fun.

Thanks for looking over my site!

Terese Nielsen / Ron Spencer collaboration # 1

The first of many!

The first of many!

Terese and Lars were out to visit last week.   She could see that I wasn’t doing anything productive so she parked me at my desk and told me to alter something while she fired up my old computer and set up this site for me.  This is the first altered card that we have ever collaborated on and I’m very happy with the way it turned out.  (many thanks to Terese’s refining style.)

We’ve got others in the works and are open to commissions.  If  you’re interested contact me at :  ber5erker@hamilton.net   with your idea.

If you’d like to see the step by step process that this card went through,  check out Terese’s site at:  http://teresenielsen.typepad.com:80/the_world_of_terese_niels/2009/06/    where she faithfully photo-documented each phase of the procedure.   Once you’ve realised that you can’t live without this unique piece of Magic the Gathering history, please head over to the auction :http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&item=360163398616   and make it yours!!

Privately commissioned MtG card alterations

In the past I’ve done numerous card alterations using Magic the Gathering cards.  These are always interesting and fun.  Some show up as auctions on Ebay,  others are requests from players that want specific ideas and themes on a card.
